Having Gracie as mine again is like being a kid at Disney greedily wanting every experience, sugar-filled treat, and souvenir in the park.

We’re in the car and almost on Anna Maria Island. The divider window is up, and my hands, lips, and tongue are all over her.

She threw on her dress from the day before but isn’t wearing any panties. The moment the car door shuts, I slide my hands up her skirt and cup her ass.

“I think we should have a rule,” I say between kisses.

She flicks her tongue in my mouth, and my cock twitches. “What would it be?”

“You shouldn’t wear panties around me ever.”

She softly laughs. Her hands run through my hair. “Speaking of panties, can we stop at my place before Hudson’s? I need to get some fresh clothes.”

“No problem.” I lick behind her ear. “I already told the driver to go there.”

“Connor texted me he’s home. He was worried since I wasn’t there all night.”

“Let me text him we’re stopping by and I want to talk to him so he isn’t unprepared.”

“Okay.”

Connor is who I worry about the most. Hudson, Ryland, and Beckett will have cooled off enough for me to talk to by now. Plus, I’m sure Lena, Chloe, and Mia would be helping in that arena. Connor already had a lot of hurt feelings and trust issues regarding my three-year disappearance. My guess is he won’t forgive me as easily as his brothers. I’m hoping his car ride home with Gabriella and Javier influenced him to cool off a bit.

I remove my phone from my pocket, and a message pops up. My gut drops.

No, no, no. Not now. This can’t be happening.

Gracie tilts her head. “What’s wrong?”

How do I even tell her this?

“Kade?”

“Don’t freak out,” I blurt out.

Her body freezes. “Why would I?”

“Interpol sent orders for me to return to following Fisher.”

Her eyes widen. “You’re leaving?”

I tighten my arms around her. “Not like that. It’s not the same as before.”

“Really? What’s different?”

“As soon as this is over, I’m done with this life. But I have to finish this. It involves you. Until Fisher is dead, he’s a danger to you.”

She turns toward the window.

“Gracie, look at me, please.”

Her tear-filled eyes drill into mine.

“Fisher won’t stay away forever, and whenever he’s here, I’ll be back. We’ll talk on the phone. As soon as this is over, I’m home for good.”

“It feels the same as last time.”

“Yeah, it sucks. But it’s not the same,” I reiterate.

She sighs. “When do you have to go?”

“Today. I need to at least talk to Connor and Hudson first. But I should get moving.”

“How long are you going to be gone?”

I close my eyes and exhale. I open them and admit, “I’m not sure.”

She takes a deep breath.

I quickly say, “Hopefully not long.”

The car stops outside her condo, and the driver opens the door. We get out. I stop her and cup her face. I sternly repeat, “This isn’t the same as last time. You have to believe me.
